CCTV cameras and recorders
Everything you need to know before installing or upgrading the surveillance system on your site.
CCTV (Closed-Circuit Television) is a security system used to monitor and record events at different locations — offices, homes, factories, retail stores. It raises overall security and lets you keep track of what happens inside and around your premises.
Today CCTV technology splits into two main families: digital IP cameras and HD-Analog cameras. The choice depends on the site, the budget, and the resolution and feature set required.
The difference between IP and Analog cameras comes down to how the image is transmitted and the overall quality of the system.
IP cameras run over a data network using ethernet cable. They offer higher image quality and advanced features like smart video analytics and network-based management. They can run on a local network with no internet at all — internet is only required if you want to view footage remotely.
Analog cameras rely on traditional coaxial cabling to send video to the DVR. They are typically cheaper but offer lower resolution and a more limited feature set compared to IP.
The right choice depends on project requirements, site size, and the resolution and features needed.
Yes. Modern CCTV systems support remote viewing from a mobile phone or computer through dedicated apps — so you can keep an eye on the location anytime, from anywhere.
The mobile apps we use most often: Hik-Connect for Hikvision, DMSS / gDMSS for Dahua, and EZView for Uniview — all available for iOS and Android.
Cameras should cover main entrances and exits, parking areas, warehouses, corridors, and any high-value zone that needs continuous monitoring — to guarantee the best possible security coverage.
During our site survey we account for field of view, target distance, night-time lighting, weather exposure, and cable routing — all of these feed into the final system design.
CCTV installation cost depends on the number of cameras, their type, image quality, and the size of the site. We price the project after understanding the requirements and confirming the right system architecture.
For an accurate, no-obligation quote, send us your site details and we will come back with an itemised product list and a complete installation price.
Yes. CCTV systems work without internet — the cameras and the recorder communicate over the local network.
Internet is required only if you want to view footage remotely from a phone or computer, or to link the system to a cloud backup service.
The number of cameras depends on the site area, the number of entrances and exits, and the zones that need monitoring. The right count is usually determined after a site survey to ensure the best possible coverage.
Approximate guidance:
- Residential apartment (100–150 m²): 4 cameras.
- Medium villa: 8 cameras.
- Shop or office (200 m²): 4–8 cameras.
- Large factory or warehouse: 16–32 cameras or more.
Recording retention depends on the hard-disk capacity inside the recorder, the number of cameras, and the recording quality. Most systems can hold days or weeks of footage before older clips are overwritten automatically.
Practical examples assuming 8 cameras running 24/7 with H.265+ compression:
- 4 TB drive — about 15 days.
- 8 TB drive — about 30 days.
- 16 TB drive — about 60 days.
Cloud backup can be enabled alongside the local recorder for off-site retention.
Indoor cameras are designed for use inside buildings. Outdoor cameras are weather-resistant against rain, dust, and temperature swings, and offer stronger physical protection in open environments.
Outdoor cameras typically carry an IP66 or IP67 rating for protection against dust and water, and may also carry IK10 for impact resistance — important at entrances and exposed areas.
Yes. All modern CCTV cameras offer night vision using infrared (IR) illumination or smart-lighting technology, enabling clear footage in low light or total darkness.
Common night-vision ranges: 30 m, 50 m, 80 m, 100 m or more — we choose the right range based on the site. Newer options such as Hikvision ColorVu deliver full-colour night footage instead of black-and-white IR imagery.
Periodic maintenance is recommended to keep cameras and recorders performing reliably and to make sure recording quality stays consistent.
Maintenance typically covers: lens cleaning, cable inspection, NVR firmware updates, video quality checks, hard-disk health tests, and verification of backup settings. We recommend a maintenance visit every 6 months for medium and large systems.
The right resolution depends on use case, but higher-resolution cameras like Full HD, 4 MP, or 8 MP / 4K deliver sharper images and more detail than lower-resolution models.
Common choices:
- 2 MP / 1080p — suitable for homes and small shops.
- 4 MP / 2K — the balanced choice for most projects: excellent clarity with reasonable storage needs.
- 8 MP / 4K — for factories, large parking facilities, and sites that need digital zoom.
Picking the right system depends on site area, the number of points to monitor, the resolution required, and the available budget. A specialist consultation makes the decision easier.
At Do Link we perform a free site survey and send you a layout that defines the count and position of cameras, the right recorder, the required hard-disk size, and the expected retention period — with transparent pricing before any commitment.
DVR and NVR are both video recorders used in CCTV systems to store footage from the cameras on a hard disk, alongside playback and live viewing.
DVR (Digital Video Recorder): works with Analog or HD-Analog cameras connected over coaxial cable. The DVR converts the analog signal into digital video and stores it on the hard disk.
NVR (Network Video Recorder): works with IP cameras connected over the data network (LAN). The cameras send already-digital video to the NVR which records and manages it.
Both devices do the same job — recording and managing CCTV video. The key difference is the camera type and the connection method.
Note: the system does not need internet to operate; recording happens on the local network. Internet is only needed if you want remote viewing.
Access control, intercom, and barrier gates
The systems that decide who gets in and who stays out — for people and vehicles.
Access Control systems govern entry and exit for specific locations using credentials — RFID cards, fingerprints, PIN codes, or face recognition. They are widely used in offices, corporate buildings, and factories.
The same system can also log time and attendance, enforce different permissions (by time or location), and link to the CCTV cameras so every access event is captured on video. See the Access Control page for models and pricing.
An intercom is an audio — or audio and video — communication system between the building entrance and the indoor units inside flats, offices, or villas. It allows residents to identify visitors before allowing them inside.
We supply traditional audio intercoms, modern video intercoms with colour touchscreens, and IP intercoms that pair the door camera with a mobile app so you can answer the call from anywhere.
Barrier gates are motorised vehicle access gates installed at parking facilities, malls, corporate sites, and residential compounds. They can be operated by a remote control, an RFID card, or a smart access system.
Common variants: Barrier Gate with a swinging boom, Bollards that retract into the ground, and Sliding or Swing Gates for full vehicle isolation. They can be paired with License Plate Recognition (LPR) cameras so the system reads the plate and opens automatically for authorised vehicles.
Networks and PBX phone systems
The infrastructure that powers everything — from the camera to the employee.
A data network is the infrastructure that connects computers, cameras, and other systems inside a site so they can exchange information and reach the internet efficiently.
Typical network elements include: cabling (Cat6/Cat6A or fibre optic), switches (managed or unmanaged), wireless access points, routers, patch panels, and the rack cabinet that holds it all. See the Networks page for the full breakdown.
PABX (Private Automatic Branch Exchange) is an internal phone system used in businesses to route calls between departments and connect them to outside phone lines.
Modern PABX variants:
- Classic PABX with analog trunk lines — suitable for small businesses.
- IP-PBX runs over the data network and supports mobile apps and video calls — for example Grandstream and Yeastar platforms.
- Hybrid PABX systems that handle analog lines and VoIP together.
